Introduction

Emile Chappin

Welcome! I'm Emile Chappin, Associate Professor and head of the Energy and Industry Group of the Faculty Technology, Policy and Management at Delft University of Technology, co-director of the TPM Energy Transition Lab, PI of the Energy Modelling Lab, a senior research fellow at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Energy and Environment, a pianist, composer and conductor.

My vision of how research and music are connected translates to how I work, how I select what I do, what I expect from whom I work with, and how I try to create synergy and impact from anything I do. More on this you can find in my vision statement.

In research, I focus on unravelling the possible long-term dynamics of energy systems and helping answer important academic and societal questions. I look for smart, robust choices every day. I do this by stimulating the energy transition's complexity. Keywords in my research: Agent-Based Modelling, Energy Systems, Energy Transition, Energy Policy, Social Simulation. For more on my research, see my TU Delft webpage with research interests, projects, teaching activities and publications. See also my bibliography, my CV, my dissertation on Simulating Energy Transitions, the TPM Energy Transition Lab, and the Energy Modelling Lab.

In music, I have experience as an awarded pianist accompanying vocalists and choirs, as a musical director of a variety of musicals including world and European premieres, and as a composer for theatre projects, orchestral work, and children’s songs. I  founded the non-profit theaterorkest.nl. See recordings and sheet music for more on music or my musical CV for highlights. I have also developed various (music-related) software.
