Introduction

Introduction

A very warm welcome to the website of Emile Chappin, Master of Science in Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management and currently PhD researcher at the Energy and Industry Group of the department Technology Policy and Management of Delft University of Technology. In my life, piano, composing, arrangements, poetry, percussion, improvisation, jazz and musical play a big role.

Highlights

Published July 15: Article in Wall Street Journal titled Europe's Flawed Carbon-Trading System - A CO2 tax would be a more effective way to reduce emissions. Please contact me for more information and/or background documents.

Announcement: NGInfra Academy September 19-24 2010
An exceptional learning opportunity for forward-thinking young academic professionals engaged in the design and management of tomorrow’s infrastructure systems, in which I am the co-manager of the Track 1, titled Energy Markets - Market design and actual performance.

Just released: "Agent-based modelling of energy infrastructure transitions" in the International Journal of Critical Infrastructures (vol 6 nr 2). This article gives an outline of the theoretical framework developed for my PhD project on simulation models of energy transitions. Three examples are given in which the framework is adopted. The paper is accessible here and is published by Inderscience.

Just released: the book Generating Electricity in a Carbon Constrained World, in which I wrote chapter 2: Carbon policies: Do they deliver in the long run?. This book chapter contains the results of a case of my work as a PhD candidate on simulation models of energy transitions. The topic of the case study is the long-term effect of carbon policies on the power generation sector. For more information, check out this book at Amazon.com.

Magazine article: a public magazine article on my work appeared in TPM in Focus (in English and Dutch), a magazine highlighting research results at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management at TU Delft.

Poster: For the Design and Engineering Day 2009, on 5 november 2009, a poster was presented on the topic of design. As I take a design approach for transitions, this resulted in this poster. More information on this event at http://www.tudelft.nl/ddea.

New piano improvisations: Daydream and In Vain
Two new recorded improvisations, played on 22-1-2010, have been uploaded to this site. Please, don't hesitate to listen to Daydream and In Vain.

Video:
Two piano solo improvisations, of april 2010: "Flowing River" on the left and "Harmonics" in the middle. On the right Indiana (James Hanley), performed by (me and) the big band Sophies Choice.

Please go out and explore my work as a scientist, for instance by reading my publications, or listen to my music. I also have some photo's on this site and have links to interesting websites to which I'm related.

Warm regards!

Emile Chappin
